So you’ve bought yourself an expensive new LED TV screen and it’s become a centrepiece of your living room – buy you’re worried that your children will damage the screen with crayons, sticky fingers, toys or even worse, throwing their Nintendo Wii controllers at it.
Sadly a cracked tv screen is not an easy fix and will need to be totally replaced, the cost of which can be almost as high as the tv itself. Retailer warranties generally don’t include accidental screen damage, so make sure you know the extent of the cover or your tv, and your wallet, may in danger.
So how do you prevent your display from being damaged? The answer is a screen protector, and there’s a great range now available.
Screen protectors are used for a wide range of applications and industries, from mounted tv’s for small businesses to queuing systems for hospitals and airports, to large scale businesses and even the military.
The screens are simple and lightweight pieces of clear acrylic plastic that sits on top of your display and hangs over the screen, protecting it from impacts. They don’t require assembly and secure using straps round the back of the screen. Many also include felt pads to prevent the protector from damaging the front of the tv and rubber feet to keep it in place.

Of course, occasional cleaning of the screen protector will be necessary, but they’re much easier to clean than tv displays as they can be sprayed on and pressed down, and are likely to need cleaning less often that you do currently.
However, the screens do have one disadvantage in that they reduce the brightness of tv screens by around 5%, but this can be easily remedied by turning the brightness of the tv up slightly.
For the average consumer the screens are available online from a range of international retailers for tv’s from 19 inches all the way up to 55 inches. They’re also priced very competitively when compared to the cost of replacing the whole screen, starting at just $60.
Reinforced versions are also available for businesses, including complete screen enclosures up to 65 inches. The enclosures are available in two colours – a silver anodized frame with a frosted acrylic or a black anodized frame with black matte acrylic.
The enclosures also feature optional sound enhancement, air vents and fans to ensure proper cooling, and tamper proof screws.
