3 Easy Ways To Learn Piano By Ear

When you learn piano by ear, it’s not a talent you pick up overnight. You’ve certainly heard about piano prodigies who’ve been gifted with playing skills from birth. But are you aware that you can still learn the ropes of easy piano playing no matter how old you are or what background in music you have?

Have a look at these 3 important points and learn piano by ear easily:

1. Learning music theory isn’t required, but it does give you an edge. Knowing enough about music definitions will certainly help you learn to play the instrument with much ease. It’s just like going to war armed with the most advanced weapons. Wouldn’t it be better to conquer any kind of battle in that manner? When you know all about scales, progressions, and other music theory concepts, everything else will just follow suit.

It has to be stressed that to learn piano by ear, you need to brush up on the fundamentals. Playing by memory is awesome, but reinforcing your skills with technical know-how can only make you an even better pianist.

2. Recognize the 3 main elements of music. You can be a great piano player, but not knowing what melody, harmony, and rhythm are could set you back. You can learn piano by ear easier that way. Before we go on, let’s go through their definitions briefly:

Melody – We also refer to this as the “tune” of the piece. Melodies can easily be simulated by humming or singing along to them. You’ll find that your voice moves with the scales. Keep at it and you’ll be able to memorize the tune effortlessly. If you can play it in your head, then it would be that simpler to play it on the piano.

Harmony – The ability to play and balance various chords or notes is referred to as Harmony. You can learn to play piano more naturally as soon as you are able to tell if the notes are in harmony. Some notes or chords work very well with others. This is what harmony is truly about.

Rhythm – Rhythm can actually exist in music without harmony or melody. All you need is a steady beat and you got yourself a good rhythm. You can make lovely rhythm just by hitting a stick against something solid. You can go as slow or as fast you want. That’s how you come up with rhythm.

3. Even experienced musicians practice a lot. Practice makes perfect, that fact can’t be said enough. Playing a tune over and over again will only help you become more familiar with it. Aside from playing with just your hands, it helps to play with your heart as well. You’ll find it easier to remember songs when you do.

These are your 3 guidelines for effortless piano playing. Learn piano by ear with great ease just by keeping these in mind.

A good piano teacher should always be able to devise lessons to suit any pupil. Because we all learn in very different manners this is very important. Many people are visual so will find that they are able to take in information in written form and will be good with theory and notation, where as others will e good a listening to the sound of the music and have a good ear. Someone else may be completely tone deaf or lack natural rhythm. Lessons should cater for strengths and weaknesses.

Young kids also need to be taught differently to adults too. Children have quite short attention spans so the lesson needs to be more varied. When I teach my younger pupils I use a little trick where I ask them their age and then get them to play a certain part that number of times and I get them to call out the numbers as we go along. Or sometimes I may ask them to roll a large dice that I have and just hope they don’t roll a 1 every time:)! It’s keeping things interesting and fun that works with kids and hopefully they learn with a smile on their faces. I have devised many worksheets and games that I call upon constantly with children and it’s great fun if not a little tiring.

It is important to have lessons running to a structure so I try and break up an hour lesson into 3 parts, but switch the order every week.

Here’s how I break it up: I’ll try and spend 20 minutes per section, so will maybe start with 20 of practicing scales, then spend 20 minutes playing the piece of music that we are learning and then 20 minutes theory. With adults this is quite straight for but again with the youngster I might play ‘find the note game’ on the keyboard which can be great fun, and the reward is to give them either something new to play or get them to play a song they really like!

Scales are so good to do – find a scale that your pupil likes, and then you can learn these in different keys. Contrary to belief, Motion Scales are always popular with Children. Arpeggios are good because they make you spread your hand out and do the correct fingering.

What Is Rocket Piano All About?

Learning piano does not have to be boring anymore. I can remember the times when I had to get piano lessons from an old lady who carried a stick which she would use to strike the side of the piano every time I hit a wrong note. Now, there are so many ways to learn how to play the instrument with ease and so much fun.

Everything’s changed now. Ruth Searle is a professional pianist who hails from New Zealand. As a recipient of the Australasian Award, it was no question that she was a great lover of fine music.

Searle is a versatile artist who can perform classical to rock pieces. Now she wants to share that gift through Rocket Piano, an online piano course.

Rocket Piano is so different from all the other online courses in that it uses a number of platforms to help teach students learn how to play the piano.

For instance, it uses e-books and audio files as a way to relay the different lessons. However, these books are great for learning because they contain illustrations with clear instructions.

Not only does give you the guidelines on what you should be paying attention to but it also includes information on the mistakes that you should be avoiding so that you know that you are learning the right things.

The course being organized into novice, intermediate and pro levels are also set to make the learning more organized.

However, Rocket Piano also contains other platforms for learning for those who are neither into listening and reading. The course contains videos that carry step-by-step demonstrations of the lessons and principles included in learning how to play the piano.

This kind of approach works well for visual students but it can also be used in combination with other approach.

But what makes Rocket Piano different from all the others is the fact that it has different games to make learning more fun.

Jayde Musica Pro is a game that aims to help the student effectively learn how to read piano scores.

My Thoughts On Rocket Piano

Being able to play a musical instrument is often a dream of most of us. And nothing can be more ambitious than learning how to play the piano. But the problem is that learning how to do so isn’t easy.

With the cost of piano lessons going up to $50 for every session, this can be a huge problem. The next concern is that it might not be possible to have someone drop by at home because of one’s time schedule. This is more common among adults.

If these are your concerns, then you better settle yourself with an online piano course.

One advantage with going online is the fact that you can control when you want to go through with those lessons making it easy on your schedule, and the fact that you only have to pay once.

There are so many online piano courses available but the one that I find really unique is the Rocket Piano.

What sets Rocket Piano apart from all the other online piano courses is the fact that it makes learning really fun with its interactive approach. The course was designed by professional pianist, Ruth Searle.

What you would expect to receive in the course is a set of e-books, audio and video files, and some game software. The benefit with being offered all these media platforms is that you get to choose which one would provide for better learning.

If you are a person who reads to comprehend, the e-books are all with clear illustrations to guide you.

But what is really interesting is the fact that the course has merged games with learning. An example is the game Jayde Musica Pro.

What this game does is to help students learn how to read piano sheets with single notes. Another game called Chordinator is used to learn how to play chords.

The course is structured into three parts which helps in organizing the lessons that one wants to take part in.

But if you have gone all the way from novice to pro, this does not mean that you stop learning. Rocket Piano also includes advanced lessons for those who are doing exceptionally well.

Beginner Piano Lessons

You might think that beginner piano lessons are not as important as the intermediate or advanced piano lessons but they actually are. Although later piano lessons are the ones that will put your knowledge to the test, beginner piano lessons are your foundation to learning to play the piano.

All the piano basics will be taught in beginner piano lessons. You will learn how to read notes, rhythm basics, count, pedal, place your hands on the right keys, play with hands alone and play with hands to hands together. Patience will play a big role in this tedious and time consuming process of learning how to play the piano.

Learning the first step is usually the harder part, just like any other skills. Since you are still unfamiliar with how things work, you need to exert extra effort. But you’ll see yourself take pleasure while learning as soon as you get the hang of it. Having fun while learning is important, you might not want to push through with the learning process if you are bored with it.

It is recommended to set a beginner piano lesson schedule that suits you. You should make the most out of your piano sessions. It is also important to designate time for practice. Practice will put your knowledge to the test and will help you learn effectively. Practice is very vital, it keeps your memory sharp. Dedicate a regular time for practice, this will help you level up easier and faster.

Beginner piano lessons are being offered by piano teachers. You can take piano lessons the conventional way by hiring a professional instructor or you can try the piano lessons available online. Choose whatever suits your schedule. Sometimes it is harder to find a piano teacher who will be able to adjust to your schedule and it is a fact that they charge an expensive fee. So an online piano lesson might be more advantageous to some people.

Assess yourself. If hiring a piano instructor will make you learn to play the piano faster and you have the budget, then hire a piano teacher. But if you feel like you’ll do just fine with following online instructions, then get an online piano course. Whatever kind of beginner piano lessons you’ll be getting, just be sure that you will be getting your money’s worth and the maximum results.
