You can plant a crop and it matures in hours – then it can die from lack of attention. This death from neglect is called “wilt” and some plants can wilt in only a few hours. A third consideration in the game is that there are privileges that come with higher levels, just like all games. There are more profitable and longer-lived crops that aren’t available for newbie levels. Once you reach only Level 5 (which isn’t difficult) you can plant Halloween’s favorite crop: the pumpkin. It has a very long life – 16 hours. It requires eight hours to harvest and another eight hours before it dies of neglect so you have 16 hours to get back to it and save those little pumpkin lives. Total cost for planting and harvesting is only 30 coins but selling them brings 68 coins.

When you’re a Farmville newbie, the options you have for planting aren’t very extensive. There are currently only 13 crops available at Level1 out of the dozens and dozens of possible crops in this virtual farming world. For instance, you can plant Eggplant which pays only 48 coins – and takes TWO FULL DAYS to mature! Another example of a poor crop is Soybeans which only pay 33 coins and take one day to mature. These crops are useful only if you will be away from your computer for an extended time. If you’re a serious gamer, though, they’re terrible. You won’t reach those upper levels quickly if you take such a long time to raise any money. Contrast those with Super Berries that pay 75 coins – and mature in two hours. You can have multiple crops of those in the time it takes to grow one Eggplant or Soybean crop.

When you are into the upper levels of the game, where the best Farmville players hang out, you will find opportunities to swiftly accumulate points. At Level50 you can plant Lemon Balm which matures in only six hours and pays 45 coins. Keep in mind that there are approximately 24 hours in a virtual farming day, which means you can plant that crop four times each day for a total of 180 coins. But if you won’t be on your computer every six hours or so, consider Cabbage which pays 233 coins – but doesn’t mature for two full days. Obviously, what you plant depends upon how intense and serious you are about the game.

Just like in a real farm with soil, seeds and a multitude of reasons for possible failure, lack of organization will devastate your plan to quickly become a prosperous farmer. So it’s critical to be smart about your crops. You need to know which seeds to plant and the best way is to take notes on various crops so that you’re crystal clear about which ones are best for your situation. What you need to know is: your crop name, naturally; your cost which includes the cost of the seeds and the cost for planting or ploughing, as it’s called in this virtual world; the interval until your crop is ready for sale; your profits. In this way you can figure out what’s best for your situation.

Keep in mind that you must, must, must know how long it will be until your crop wilts. If you leave it in the ground too long, it’s finished and you will have lost your entire investment in seed and work. Forget-Me-Nots are an advanced level crop, but the cost is 15 coins for ploughing and an amazing 725 coins for the seed! That would be a miserable loss, one that might cause you to lose your enthusiasm for Farmville. That would be a shame – especially since it’s a preventable mistake.

Then take your pet home and have it drink every drop of the potion because you’re paid 17 Paw Prints for each drink. And don’t worry – it’s not at all harmful so you can give him as much as he wants. You can then invest those funds in more drinks and keep your baby drinking. This will bring you points very quickly.

You can always earn extra money by cleaning dirty pets. It may not sound inviting but it’s easy and lucrative. So take your pet and go wandering around the shops and public buildings, searching for dirty, yucky pets who could use a bath. They’re easy to spot because they’re surrounded by flies! There is a Soap icon on your screen so click it and clean off the poor fly-tortured pets. Then, repeat by clicking on your Refresh button – and the pets will be filthy again. You can repeat your cleaning and make even more money. Keep this up until you’re tired of cleaning pets.

These are just of the ways to wrack up lots of Pet Society points.
